ESPARRAGOSA DE LARES

Description

Neighboring town of Puebla de Alcocer and that has as a hamlet to Galizuela , throws a perfect panoramic of the reservoir of Zújar , besides having archaeological elements of interest.

The monumental ensemble of Esparragosa de Lares throws several points of interest. In the religious sphere, the Church of Santa Catalina de Alejandría stands out - which has a quadrangular tower r - and, already in the outskirts, on an elevation , the hermitage of the Virgen de la Cueva , patron saint of the town. Under this hermitage we find a construction called "Casa del Santero" , in process of rehabilitation. Two more hermitages can still be found in the surroundings: the Hermitage of Cristo del Consuelo and theHermitage of San Isidro . Back to the urban core, or building linked to religiosity is the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus , also known as "The Hospital" , which houses several images inside and that stands out for its "Clock Tower" .

Buildings of civil type that can be attractive for the visitor are the porticado Town Hall , located in the cobbled Plaza Mayor , which also houses a pyramidal granite fountain .They also emphasize the white houses that cover their streets, supported by a popular architecture and some of which display blazons and armor stones . Another outstanding monument in the village is "La Cruz " .

Of archaeological interest are the remains present in the farm "La Sevillana" . Roman finds and Visigoths were found in that place, an area once used for farming.

From the playful point of view, the visitor can attend celebrations such as the "Jueves Lardero" , the " Enramá " , "Santa Catalina" or the patron saint festivities of August ,and the palate with dishes like the Extremaduran stew or the stew with romazas , very typical at Easter . And now, to sweeten the feast nad a better than some candelillas ,mantecados or the sweet weekly weeks known as r epápalos . You can also take, if you have good, any of the goat or sheep cheeses that are produced in the region. No doubt you will not be disappointed.
